Dr. Shi and Dr. Pan's journey began in the research lab at UCLA, where they first crossed paths. Their shared passion for orthodontics led them to become co-residents in the Orthodontic residency program. As a dynamic husband-and-wife orthodontic duo, they are excited to call Kirkland home and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to deliver twice the excellence in orthodontic care to the residents of the greater Seattle area!
Dr. Jiayu (Fiona) Shi was born and raised in a family deeply rooted in dentistry. Her father, a distinguished oral surgeon, and her mother, a general dentist and chief editor for several dental journals, are both esteemed professors at the West China School of Stomatology – the oldest and top-ranked dental school in China. Dr. Shi's journey in dentistry began at this prestigious institution, where she received her dental education.
Dr. Shi is a board-certified orthodontist, a distinction held by only approximately 40% of orthodontists nationwide. Her dedication to advancing the field of orthodontics is evident through her numerous presentations at both national and local conferences.
Alongside her husband, Dr. Dan Pan, she relocated to Kirkland three years ago and has since dedicated herself to serving the local community. Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Shi finds joy in exploring the world through travel, nurturing her garden, and embarking on hiking adventures with her beloved husband, Dan, and their furry baby - Westie “Panda”.
Dr. Shi's commitment to her patients is unwavering. She strives to provide optimal clinical results, employing the most efficient and least invasive treatment plans to achieve lasting stability.

RESEARCH
During her doctoral research at UCLA, Dr. Shi's focus was on dental and general bone loss in aging individuals. Her groundbreaking work led to a collaboration with NASA, where she orchestrated the transportation of osteoporosis mice models to the International Space Station (ISS). Working closely with scientists at the Kennedy Space Station, her efforts earned her the coveted 1st place in the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) Hatton Award.
TEACHING
Before her relocation to the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Shi was recruited by the Orthodontic Department at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry, where she served as a clinical faculty member, mentoring orthodontic residents and contributing as a board member of the UM dental school technology committee.
Dr. Hsin-Chuan (Dan) Pan, a third-generation dentist, hails from Taipei, Taiwan, and was reared in the diverse cultural landscape of Canada. He started his orthodontic journey at the illustrious University of California, Los Angeles orthodontic program. Concurrently, he undertook the role of a research scientist, channeling his expertise towards the forefront of biomedical imaging advancement.
Dr. Pan has engaged in collaborative endeavors with numerous research teams, yielding more than 20 published scientific papers that have garnered over 600 citations across various fields. His contributions have been so impactful that his work was prominently featured on the cover of a preeminent journal in the field, namely, Tissue Engineering.
Dr. Pan's multifaceted background, deeply rooted in both photography and rigorous scientific inquiry, has culminated in the formulation of a distinctive treatment philosophy. Central to this philosophy is an unwavering commitment to an aesthetically-driven, data-centric approach. In his view, the smile stands as a masterpiece, an exquisite fusion of scientific precision and individuality.
The synergy of these diverse influences permeates his practice, endowing it with a hallmark of excellence. Dr. Pan's mission is to offer his patients an orthodontic journey where science and artistry converge to craft a truly exceptional orthodontic experience.

Woof! Hello there, everyone! My name is Panda, and I'm a 3-year-old Westie with a wagging tail and a heart full of happiness. I may be a little pup, but I've got a big job – I'm the official Chief Happiness Officer at the Emerald City Orthodontics!
I might not have a fancy diploma hanging on the wall, but I bring something special to the office that no one else can – pure, unbridled joy! My job is to make sure everyone who walks through those clinic doors leaves with a big smile on their face (pun intended).
Outside of work, I love to chase after birds and rabbits, roll around in the grass, and have epic tug-of-war battles with my favorite chew toy. But my absolute favorite thing in the whole world is spreading smiles and making people feel happy. I can't wait to meet you and make your visit a paw-sitively delightful experience!
